Dhaka, Feb 8: The prime accused of schoolboy Md Abdullah’s murder case Motahar Hossain was killed in gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) early hours on Monday.

RAB -10 commander Jahangir Hossain Matubbar said that Motahar Hossain, a relative of the boy, was killed at South Kernaiganj’s Chitakhola Saban Factory Road area at around 4:00am.

He said a patrol team of the elite force challenged some motor bikers in the area on the outskirts of the capital and the bikers opened fire on the RAB members, prompting them to fire back, triggering a gunfight.

One of the offenders was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot while his associates managed to flee from the scene.

The elite force recovered the body, one pistol and several rounds of bullets from the spot.

Later, the Rab members identified the deceased as Motahar, based on the ID Card found along the body.

Earlier on February 2, police recovered the body of M Abdullah, 11, a class five student of Mugarchar Government Primary School and son of M Badol Hossain, from a plastic drum at a house in Lakerchar area of the upazila four days after his abduction.

The victim’s family members said Abdullah went out of his house on January 29 to play with his friends and did not return home.

Later, the family members filed a general diary with Keraniganj Model Police Station on the day.

On January 30, the kidnappers demanded Tk 5 lakh as ransom from the family members through mobile message.

Abdullah’s grandfather (mother’s father) Marfat Ali said they sent Tk 2 lakh to the Bkash accounts of the kidnappers on the day but later their phone number got switched off.

On the other hand, a team of the police station arrested the mastermind of the abductors, Mehedi, from Rajbari on February 1 and later arrested four others from different areas.

According to the statement of Mehedi, police recovered the body of Abdullah from the drum on the rooftop at the house of Mehedi on February 2.
