President takes salute at Victory Day parade


Dhaka, December 16: Dhaka: President M Abdul Hamid on Saturday attended the parade and took salute marking the 47th Victory Day.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also attended the parade held on National Parade Ground in the capital arranged and conducted by Nine Infantry Division of Bangladesh Army.

Abdul Hamid accompanied by parade commander Maj Gen Md Akbar Hossain, riding on an open jeep visited the Victory Day Parade and took salute.

People from all walks of life witnessed the spectacular parade for about two-hour.

The President witnessed the spectacular fly past and aerobatic display of aircrafts of army aviation, navy aviation and RAB helicopter and parachute landing by army paratroopers.

Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Navy, Bangladesh Air Force, Bangladesh Police, Coast Guard, Ansar, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Bangladesh National Cadet Corps participated in the parade.

The programme ended with a spectacular fly-past by Air Force’s MIG-29 led by Air Commodore Muhammad Mahfidur Rahman, reports BSS.

Different ministries also displayed their development activities there through decorated vehicles.

President Hamid, accompanied by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, exchanged greetings with the contingent leaders took part in the parade.

The parade ground was decorated with the images of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, four national leaders and seven Birshreshthas.

On his arrival at the parade venue at 10:32am, Abdul Hamid was received by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque, MP and chiefs of the three services.

Earlier, on her arrival at the national parade ground at around 10:28 am, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was received by Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque, several MPs and chiefs of the three services.

Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, cabinet members, diplomats, freedom fighters, senior civil and military officers, were present.

A total of 26 Liberation War heroes from India and a delegation from Russian Armed Forces also attended the event.
