Dhaka, April 29: Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Friday said that three people have been identified in Xulhaz Mannan and his friend Mahbub Rabbi Tonoy murder.

“We’re heading toward the right direction. We’ll inform you everything in time. We’ve succeeded to identify three people. However, I’m unable to tell you anything more about the investigation right now. It’ll take a few more days to know about the details,” the Home Minister revealed it after journalists wanted to know from him about the progress of investigation into the Kalabagan double murder following opening a showroom at the city’s Elephant Road.

“We’ve identified the culprits involved in several murders, including that of bloggers. Several were brought before justice. The rest will be arrested soon,” he said in reply to another query.

In the afternoon of April 25 last, assailants hacked former protocol officer of the US Embassy in Dhaka Xulhaz Mannan, 35, and his friend Mahbub Rabbi Tonoy, 26, to death entering their apartment at Kalabagan Lake Circus area in the name of delivery of parcels.

Xulhaz, maternal cousin of former foreign minister Dr Dipu Moni, was the editor of ‘Roopban’ magazine, which advocates the rights of gay and transgender.

Following the murders, Xulhaz Mannan’s elder brother Minhaz Mannan filed a murder case with the city’s Kalabagan police station accusing five to six unnamed persons. The Detective Branch of police was given the responsibility of investigation into the case on Wednesday.
