Dhaka, April 24: Senior journalist Shafik Rehman during interrogation named ‘at least more three persons’ that involved in the plot to abduct and kill prime minister’s son Sajeeb Ahmed Wazed Joy, police claimed on Sunday.
“We are verifying the information and the alleged persons will be taken into custody as soon as possible,” Additional Police Commissioner Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Monirul Islam told reporters.
Without disclosing the identities, he said that all of them are Bangladeshis.
According to Islam, “the alleged persons are involved in politics. Some of them live abroad and some in Bangladesh.”
Police is quizzing Rehman after it secured a fresh five-day remand to interrogate him on Friday.
After the first round of custody, police claimed that they found confidential FBI documents after searching the journalist’s house.
“We earlier knew that a small amount of money changed hands (for obtaining the documents). Shafik Rehman said $30,000 had been used for the information,” said Islam.
