Dhaka, September 18: Police have arrested BNP leader Habib Un Nabi Khan Sohel, who is wanted in a slew of cases.The law enforcers detained and took him to Gulshan Police Station around 7:30pm on Tuesday, Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi confirmed it to media.
Sohel, the president of the party’s Dhaka Metropolitan South unit, is also a joint secretary general of the central committee.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested him at Gulshan following specific information, DMP spokesman Masudur Rahman said.
Sohel, a former chief of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and Swechchhasebak Dal, has over 50 cases against him on different charges, including violence.
Police had long been looking for him and raided his home at Shantinagar several times.
He was seen in public at a rally in front of the party’s Naya Paltan headquarters on September 1.
The party has called an urgent press conference at the headquarters after his arrest.
