Dhaka, June 29: Police on Wednesday arrested 22 people allegedly for registering fake SIM (subscribers information module) for using mobile phones in Dhaka.
The three among other detainees were identified as Moumin Mia, 40, Shafiqul Islam, 25, distributors of Airtel, and Wahid, 43, a territory sales manager of the telecom operator.
The arrest was made in view of irregularities in the SIM registration process despite the biometric SIM registration that concluded in May.
The police, in an SMS sent to the media, said they would soon provide detailed information about the arrest of the 22 people.
Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (BTRC) believes there are still certain flaws in the biometric SIM registration.
So, the process is on to address such irregularities, BTRC officials said.
Government made mandatory for SIM re-registration with biometric finger prints which started from 16 December last year and concluded May 31 this year.
