Dhaka, July 4: Nation paid rich tribute on Monday to the victims, who were killed in the hostage incident at Holey Artisan Bakery in Gulshan area on Friday, at Army Stadium in Banani.
The Prime Minister placed floral wreath on the altar of a podium erected in memory of the victims from home and abroad at Army Stadium in Banani in the capital this morning as a two-day state mourning in memory of the victims of the barbaric act ended Monday.
Two cascades of Bangladeshi nationals Faraaz Ayaaz Hossain and Ishrat Akhond, covered with Bangladesh national flag and cascade of one Bangladesh origin US citizen Abinta Kabir, covered with Bangladesh and US flags, were kept on the raised platform.
The background of the podium was put up with the flags of Bangladesh, India, Italy, Japan and the United States in memory of the nationals of these countries fell victims of the terror attack.
Members of the cabinet, PM’s advisors, relatives of the deceased persons, parliament members, Chiefs of three services and leaders of different political parties were present.
Sheikh Hasina talked to the relatives of the deceased and conveyed sympathy to them. She also talked to envoys of the United States, Japan, India and Italy.
Ambassador of United States in Bangladesh Marcia Bernicat, Japanese ambassador Masato Watanabe, High Commissioner of India Harsh Vardhan Shringla, Ambassador of Italy in Dhaka Mario PALMA also paid tributes to the victims.
Relatives of the deceased, ambassadors of the friendly countries, central leader of Bangladesh Awami League, 14-party alliance, FBCCI, family members of the deceased police officials and mayors of Dhaka north and south city corporations followed the Prime Minister in placing wreath to the terror victims.
Later, the podium was kept open for the cross section of people to pay their tributes to the deceased.
