Dhaka, June 20: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of Ekushey award winning journalist, noted cultural personality and veteran freedom fighter Kamal Lohani.In a message of condolence, the premier said, “We have lost a personality having progressive mindset and an extraordinary fighter of non-communal spirit at the death of Kamal Lohani.”
She said that Kamal Lohani played a pivotal role in the Bangalees’ Language Movement, establishing self-right and autonomy as well as the War of Liberation.
The prime minister said he was an idealist with virtues human beings should have. She particularly referred to his contribution to establishing the spirit of the Liberation War and non-communal harmony, saying Kamal Lohani was a leading personality in the movement of spreading the culture of Bangladesh.
She prayed for the salvation of the departed soul and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family.
Kamal Lohani died this morning while undergoing treatment at the ICU of Sheikh Russel Gastro Liver Institute and Hospital in Mohakhali.
