Pir kills in Rajshahi by hacking

Rajshahi, May 7: A Pir (spiritual leader) has been killed by hacking in Rajshahi’s Tanor upazila on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Mohammad Shahidullah, 58, son of late Habibur Rahman.

Deceased son Russel Ahmed filed a case accusing unknown persons but police yet to arrest anybody with the killing.

“Shahidullah lived in village Mohanandakhali under Poba upazila. Many followers visited his residence and he also often visited the residences of his (Shahidullah) followers,” Abdur Razzak, officer-in-charge of Tanor Police Station said.

Police recovered the body after being informed by locals around 10:00pm on Friday night from a Aam Bagan (mango orchard) near Badhair Union, he said.

“It seems he was hacked first and then slaughtered,” the OC added.

However, Police did not comment on the motive or the fashion of the murder immediately.

Victim`s son Rasel said that his father left home on Friday around 8:00am to meet his follower and went missing.

Later, noticing the body, locals informed police. Meanwhile, police recovered a travel bag, a letter and a note book from the spot.

Police sent the body to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital for autopsy.
