Dhaka, June 29: Passport services sector is the most corrupt sector among Bangladesh government services sectors as 77% people are affected by corruption in this sector.
Anti-corruption watchdog Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) on Wednesday published this results from a survey conducted on over 15,000 households countrywide at city’s Danmondi.
The burden of corruption and bribery affects low-income families more than the families with higher financial solvency, added the report.
In total citizens were forced to pay total BDT 8,821 crore in bribery during 2015, says the TIP report published.
This amount of graft money is 3.7 percent of total national budget of 2014-15 fiscal year.
While speaking at the unveiling of the report, Executive Director Iftekharuzzaman said, service sector of Bangladesh is still being haunted by corruption, affecting the general population of the country.
TIB Chairperson Sultana Kamal and Deputy Executive Director Dr Sumaiya Khair addressed the meeting among others.
