Passenger launch collides with cargo vessel in Barisal

Barisal, April 22: A cargo trawler capsized after colliding with a Dhaka-bound passenger launch named MV Green Line-2 in Lamchhari area of Kirtankhola River in Barisal on Saturday afternoon.

Around 600 passengers of the affected launch were safely rescued.

No reports of casualties or injuries were available immediately.

The accident took place around 4:30pm.

“There were six crews at the sunken cargo, while 600 passengers at the launch. All the passengers including cargo crews are rescued unhurt,” SI Shafiqul Islam of river police told themorningbellbd.com.

Sources said that a cargo ship was heading towards Barisal from Dhaka collided with the passenger launch in the area, leaving the cargo capsized. Meanwhile, the passenger launch anchored in Lamchhari area as its deck got damaged due to the collision.

Confirming the matter, Kaunia police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Selim Reza said that all the passengers in Green Line-2 launch are safe now.
