Narayanganj, May 19: Salim Osman, local lawmaker from Jatiya Party said on Thursday that he won’t say sorry for his work to humiliate a Narayanganj teacher.
Even, the lawmaker claimed that the headmaster Shyamal Kanti Bhakta did sit-ups holding his ears in public willingly for saving himself from public wrath after hurting religious sentiments.
“There is no question of an apology,” said AKM Salim Osman in a press briefing at Narayanganj Press Club on Thursday.
The action of humiliating a teacher that took place last Friday drew condemnation in the social media as well as several ministers of the cabinet including different political leaders, teachers and students.
Shyamal Kanti Bhakta, the humiliated teacher of Narayanganj’s Piyar Sattar Latif High School, alleged that the lawmaker had slapped him a few times during the incident.
However, Osman claimed, “he (Shyamal Kanti) confessed to me that he had made the remarks about religion mistakenly and did the sit-ups holding his ears willingly to save himself from public wrath.”
Responding to a question whether he will apologise as people from all walks of life raised a demand for apology from the MP over the incident, Salim Osman said, “The question doesn’t arise to say sorry even if I die.”
