‘No plan to deploy army in Gazipur, Khulna city polls’: EC


Dhaka, Apr 17: Election Commission (EC) secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed on Tuesday said the Election Commission (EC) has no plan to deploy army in the upcoming Gazipur and Khulna city corporation polls.He came up with the remark while talking to journalists after a meeting with BNP’s 6 member delegation team led by its standing committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain at the Nirbachan Bhaban in the city’s Agargaon on Tuesday.

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has demanded deployment of army seven days before the elections to Khulna and Gazipur city corporations scheduled for May 15.

The other members of the delegation were party standing committee members Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan and Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, and vice-chairman Chowdhury Kamal Ibne Yusuf.

Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda and other Election Commissioners were present at the meeting.
