Dhaka, May 5: The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday passed an order that there will be no any fresh hearing on the 168 cases which were settled by former chief justice Md Muzammel Hossain and former SC justice AHM Shamsuddin Choudhury Manik after their retirement.
The Appellate Division headed by the Chief Justice (CJ) Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the order.
The Court also expected to publish the full reports of the verdicts within a month.
Earlier, former chief justice Muzammel Hossain had said there is no scope to rehear cases awaiting full verdicts.
“We are scrutinising the matters; fresh hearings will not happen,” Surendra Kumar Sinha said.
The matter came up before the appeals bench headed by the chief justice.
“I give you my word. All the verdicts will be published within a month. It’s my responsibility,” said the Chief Justice.
The Supreme Court had scheduled fresh hearing for the cases s just a few months after the chief justice said it was unconstitutional for judges to write verdicts once they retire.
On April 28, the matter was included in the apex court’s cause list.
