Dhaka, April 11: Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) imposed ban on concerts and cultural programmes after 5:00 pm on the Pohela Boishakh (The Bengali New Year).
“We won’t allow any concerts after 5:00pm on the day of Pohela Boishakh. Police will ensure high security for Monggol Sovazatra (Peace rally) starting from Charukola Institute of Dhaka University at Pohela Boishakh morning,” DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia told reporters at a press briefing on Monday.
“There are no bounding wearing new clothes, traveling here and there, and hanging out nicely apart from arranging a big concert in open-air, but people will join at big indoor programmes”, he added.
Replying to a query on woman assaulting in last year Pohela Boishakh celebration, he replied, “I am sorry for unexpected events that happened last year Pohela Boishakh celebration and we are seeking, so that, the same situation will not happen next time.”
There will be nine watch-towers, special police teams in Dhaka University, Ramna area, Shahabag and Rabindra Sarovar areas to prevent eve-teasers, the DMP chief said.
DMP Commissioner also said, we have decided there will be foot-patrolling-system of Police and CCTV system to monitor the Pohela Boishakh programmes. It would also prevent hijackers, pickpockets and eve-teasers in Ramna and Shahabag areas, he said.
The DMP also banned selling and distribution of Bhubhujela flute.
DMP Commissioner directed that all programmes of Pohela Boishakh must be end by 5pm and there will be central announcement system for ensuring it.
