Pabna, May 11: War Criminal Motiur Rahman Nizami was buried at 7:18am in his family graveyard of village Manmathpur under Santhia upazila in Pabna district following his execution in Dhaka Central Jail on Wednesday.
An ambulance carrying the corpse of the Jamaat-e-Islami chief reached his village around 6:35am on Wednesday. He was buried besides the grave of his parents as he advised the family members to do so before his death shortly after a funeral prayer.
Earlier the Jamaat-e-Islami leader was hanged for his crimes against humanity in the 1971 Bangladesh’s War of Liberation. He was executed at 12.10am inside the Dhaka Central Jail amid heightened security measures in the area.
His namaz-e-janaza was held at 7:12am which was conducted by his son Barrister Abdul Momen. Apart from relatives, the janaza was attended by local leaders and activists of the party.
Nizami’s cousin Abdullah Al Mamun said after the execution of Nizami in Dhaka Central Jail after Tuesday midnight, his body was brought at his village home at night. Six motor vehicles including two ambulances reached Manmathpur village at about 6:30am. After namaj-e-janaza, his body was buried on Wednesday morning.
Tight security measures were taken over the namaj-e-janaza and burial of Nizami at his village home and surrounding areas. Police, RAB and BGB personnel have remained deployed in the village.
