Neo-JMB women’s chief arrested

Desk report, Apr 06: Police have arrested a woman who they say is the chief of the women’s wing of Neo-JMB, the group blamed for the deadly Gulshan cafe attack.

They say ‘Homaira’ alias ‘Nabila’ is known as the ‘Bat Woman’ in Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh or JMB’s revived chapter.

The Counterterrorism and Transnational Crimes (CTTC) unit of the police arrested her in the city’s Siddeshwari on Wednesday night, additional deputy commissioner of DMP’s media and public relation division Obaisur Rahman said.

He said they produced her in a court that granted two days to grill her in custody on Thursday.

The charges against Homayra included terrorism financing, according to him.

Police arrested her husband Tanvir Yasin Karim in November last year while investing the August 15 blast at Hotel Olio in Dhaka’s Panthapath that killed a suspect during raid.

Tanvir is the owner of Darus Salam Publications and Karim International, which imports books of foreign writers.

He has an outlet in the capital’s Monipuripara.

Mohibul said Tanvir admitted to his wife’s involvement in terrorism during interrogation.

Police didn’t arrest Homaira at that period with her husband as she had been pregnant. Homaira completed HSC from Viqarunnisa Noon School & College and later graduated from NSU on BBA.
