Dhaka, May 14: National Professor Dr Anisuzzaman died at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), Dhaka on Thursday. He was 83.Anisuzzaman, who had long been suffering from various old-age complications, breathed his last at the CMH at 4:55pm.
On May 9, he was shifted to the CMH from a private hospital in the capital as his condition is very critical.
He was taken to the CMH as per the directive of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Earlier on April 27, Anisuzzaman was admitted to Universal Medical College Hospital in the city as he fell seriously ill.
Apart from heart problems, the 83-year-old professor had been suffering from kidney and lung complications, prostate problems and Parkinson’s disease.
Born on February 18, 1937 In West Bengal’s Basirhat under 24 Parganas District, India, the noted professor along with his family moved to Bangladesh (East Pakistan) after the partition of the Indian subcontinent in 1947.
Anisuzzaman taught at Chittagong University before joining Dhaka University. He has played an active role in various movements against bigotry and fundamentalism in the country.
