Narayanganj, Feb 8: A Narayanganj court on Monday indicted 35 people including prime accused Nur Hossain and three sacked RAB officials in two cases involving the sensational seven-murder case.
District and Sessions Judge Syed Enayet Hossain framed the charges and fixed February 25 to formally start the trial by recording witnesses’ deposition.
A total of 23 accused out of 35 were present during Monday’s hearing while the rest 12 others remained absconding.
On July 8 last year, a court accepted the chargesheets in the two cases.
The district court accepted the chargesheets rejecting the naraji (no-confidence) petition filed by Selina Islam Beauty, widow of Narayanganj City Corporation panel mayor Nazrul Islam, one of the victims of the gruesome killing.
On April 8, detectives pressed charges against 35 people, including three sacked Rab officials –Lt Col Tareque Sayeed Mohammad, Major Arif Hossain and Lt Commander MM Rana–and Nur Hossain.
After the murder of seven people, Selina Islam filed a case against six people while advocate Chandan Sarkar’s son-in-law filed another case.
On April 27, 2014, Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam, his three associates and driver were abducted by miscreants from Fatullah area of Narayanganj.
At the same time, senior lawyer at District Judge’s Court Chandan Kumar Sarker and his driver were also abducted on their way to the capital, Dhaka.
Three days into their abduction, the bodies of six people, including that of Nazrul and Chandan Kumar, were recovered from the Shitalakhya River on April 30.
A day later the body of Jahangir, car driver of Nazrul Islam, was recovered from the river.
