Iqbal Bahar made the disclosure while addressing a press conference at CMP headquarters around 3:15pm.
Wasim fired gunshots at Mahmuda Khanam and Anwar was among several others who worked as rescuers to the main attackers, the CMP commissioner said.
“It was a targeted killing,” he added.
Meanwhile, a Chittagong court recorded deposition of two detainees who were arrested for their alleged connection in the killing.
The CMP Commissioner Iqbal Bahar confirmed that Wasim and Anwar, both professional criminals from Rangunia upazila, were giving their confessional statements before the court under Section 164.
On June 5, Mahmuda Khanam was killed by a group of assailants at her Nizam Road house in the port city when she was taking her son to put him on a school bus.
Her husband Superintendent Babul Aktar was involved in several successful anti-militant raids in the coastal district.
