Mir Quasem to get maximum 7 days for mercy plea: IG prisons


Dhaka, August 31: Inspector General of Prisons Brig Gen Syed Iftekhar Uddin on Wednesday said that death row war criminal Mir Quasem Ali will get maximum seven days for a mercy petition.

“Quasem will be given reasonable time but that is not more than seven days for a mercy petition,” IG prisoner said  while talking to the reporters at Prisons Headquarters in the city.

The verdict copy has been sent to Kashimpur Jail on Tuesday night and the jail authorities read out the copy to Quasem Ali around 7:30 am on Wednesday morning, he said.

Already some family members of the condemned Jamaat-e-Islami leader met him at the jail, he added.

The authority will take decision to execute the Supreme Court verdict after completion the said period for Presidential clemency, he said in reply to a query.
