Dhaka, Mar 6: Attorney General (AG) Mahbubey Alam on Sunday said that minister’s statements on the Chief Justice (CJ) unconstitutional.

He urged all to abstain from making any adverse comment on Chief Justice and Judiciary.

“The Chief Justice is not an individual, he is an institute. So, any controversial statements on the Chief Justice means to be controversial the whole Judiciary. So, everybody should abstain from making any adverse comment on the Chief Justice and the Judiciary,” he told reporters while replying to a query on Mir Quasem`s war crimes trial at his office in Supreme Court building.

Earlier on Saturday, Food Minister Qamrul Islam and liberation affairs minister Mozammel Huq demanded rehearing on Mir Quasem`s appeal hearing in a new bench excluding the Chief Justice.

“Such a demand and statement is unconstitutional. This will defend the fair justice and to be questioned the war crimes trial as well,” the attorney general said.

Mahbubey Alam also urged all to wait till March 8 to observe the verdict to be delivered by the Appellate Division on Mir Quasem`s appeal challenging the death penalty.
