Dhaka, June 5: Home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Sunday said that militants murdered Mahmuda Khanam Mitu, 33, the wife of Babul Akhter, a superintendent of police.
“They (militants) might have carried out the murder as her husband is a valiant police officer and has been playing an active role in curbing militancy,” said the minister.
The minister came up with his comments after a programme held in Satkania upazila of Chittagong on Sunday, hours after Mahmuda was gunned down in port city.
Mentioning that by killing his wife the militants tried to demoralise him, the minister said detectives have already launched a manhunt to nab the criminals.
Replying to a question put by journalists about security of the lawmen, the home minister said safety and security issue for family members of those police officers engaged in curbing militancy have become a matter of concern.
“We have to take adequate measures to ensure their security,” Kamal added.
