Dhaka, September 5: Police are looking for four more militants as father-in-law and mother-in-law of slain Bangladesh Army Major (Ret) Zahidul Islam revealed “important information” to the law enforcers.
The information provided by Major Zahidul’s father-in-law and mother-in-law are being examined, said police.
It is learnt that police are looking for four more suspected militants who were involved in Gulshan terror attack.
The four militants have already been identified and police received their mobile phone numbers and addresses.
Police have also decided to question Zahidul Islam’s father Md Nurul Islam, who was a former police inspector.
Deputy Commissioner of Mirpur Zone of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Masud Ahmed disclosed it on Monday.
He said Zahidul’s father-in-law and mother-in-law were arrested from the city’s Shyamoli on Sunday night. They were later taken to Roopnagar Police Station for questioning. Additional Deputy Commissioner of DMP Kamal Hossain questioned them.
After questioning, they were handed over to the custody of their relatives, he said. They might be taken to police custody at anytime again for questioning.
ADC Kamal Hossain said Zahidul’s father would be questioned soon.
Meanwhile, Sub-Inspector Mehedi Hasan filed a case with Roopnagar Police Station in connection with the incident of murder at Roopnagar Residential Area on Friday night. The case is now being investigated by Sub-Inspector Azizul Huq.
Names of four militant suspects have been mentioned in the case. However, their ages or addresses have not been mentioned. They are Manik, Iqbal, Akash and Sagar.
It has been stated in the case that the militants have been trying to jeopardise the ‘public security, solidarity and sovereignty’ of the country. In order to tarnish the country’s image and create panic in the mind of public, they attacked police using sharp weapons and exploding bombs.’
