Mainul denied bail, sent to jail in defamation case

Dhaka, October 23: A Dhaka court has rejected the bail petition of Barrister Mainul Hosein and sent him to jail in a defamation case filed over his verbal abuse on journalist Masuda Bhatti on television. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Kaisarul Islam passed the order in presence of him on Tuesday.

Earlier on Monday night, detective police arrested Barrister Mainul Hosein from the residence of JSD President ASM Abdur Rob in Uttara.

The case in Rangpur was filed at the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Arifa Yasmin Mukta by human rights activist Mili Maya on Monday afternoon.

The court, after recording the plaintiff’s statement, issued an arrest warrant against Mainul.

Hosein is a former caretaker government adviser who was involved in the formation of the major political alliance Jatiyo Oikyafront ahead of elections.
