Desk report, Apr 29: Fourteen people were killed and 13 injured by lightning across the country from morning to afternoon on Sunday.In Sirajganj, five people were killed due to lightning and the deceased are Nabil Hossain, 17, son of Faruk Hasan, Poling Hossain, 16, son of Rashedul Hasan, of Shahjadpur upazila, Kader Hossain, 37, son of late Aher Mondol, of Kamarkhanda upazila, Shamsul Mondol, 55, and his son of Paresh Mondol, of Kazipur upazila.
In Kazipur, Shamsul and his son Paresh were burnt by lightning while they picking peanuts from Degree Tekani Char. Later local people recovered them but they died on the way to Kazipur Health Complex, said Md. Harunur Rashid, chairman of Tekani Union Parishad.
In Shahjadpur, Nabil and Poling, students of upazila Degree College were killed as lightning struck them in front of the upazila land office.
In Kamarkhanda, Kader, a farmer was killed by lighting at a paddy field.
In Magura, three people were killed in Magura Sadar and Shalikha upazilas. They are identified as—van driver Shamim, Alam and Mehedi.
A farmer was killed in Brahmanbaria. He was identified as Abdur Rahim (40).
House wife Sonavan (24) was killed in Sapahar under Naogaon district. A garment worker Zafrul Islam (20) was killed in Kaliakoir under Gazipur district.
A woman Monsura Begum (35) is killed by lightning in Baghaichori upazila under Rangamati district.
A school student Piyal (13) was killed due to lightning in Noakhali sadar upzila. Besides, farmer Liton Mia (30) of Sunamganj sadar upazila is also killed due to lightning.
