Dhaka, June 27: Former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Monday sent Eid greetings to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also ruling Awami League president, like other years.
A three-member team led by Abul Khayer Bhuiyan, social welfare secretary of BNP, went to the AL chief’s Dhanmondi office and handed over the Eid-greetings card on behalf of Khaleda Zia.
Awami League’s Office Secretary Abdus Subhan Golap received the Eid greetings card.
The chiefs of the countries two major political parties greet each other during Eid and Pahela Baishakh, the first day of the Bangla calendar, though they have long been avoiding each other to personally meet or exchange pleasantries.
Neither Hasina nor Khaleda attended the Iftar parties they hosted for political leaders this Ramadan though they invited each other.
The last time the two top leaders were seen together on September 10, 2009 at an Iftar party organised by the Armed Forces Division.
