Khaleda shown arrested in 3 sabotage cases

Dhaka, Feb 12: BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has been shown arrested in a murder case filed over the 2015 arson attack on a bus in Chouddagram upazila of Comilla that left eight people dead, reports private TV station.

The former prime minister has been staying in old jail on Nazimuddin Road in Dhaka since Thursday last as a Dhaka court sentenced her five years imprisonment for embezzling Tk 21 million.

Her son BNP Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman and four others got 10 years in jail and fined Tk 20 million each.

Eight people were killed and at least 20 others injured when miscreants hurled a petrol bomb at a bus at Chouddagram’s Jogmohanpur on February 3, 2015, during the BNP-led alliance’s nationwide anti-government movement.

The arrest orders have been sent to Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), said the investigation officer of the cases Inspector of Comilla Detective Branch of Police Firoz Ahmed.

In this connection Abu Bakar, officer-in-charge of Gulshan Police Station, said: “The arrest orders have yet to reach. Action will be taken after getting the orders.”
