Khaleda, Shannon meeting fruitful: Fakhrul


Dhaka, November 06: Visiting US under secretary of state for political affairs Thomas A Shannon met BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Monday to get her views on the country’s current political situation and the Rohingya crisis.The meeting was held at Gulshan office of the capital in the morning and it lasted around an hour.

US state department spokesperson Heather Nauert was present.

After the meeting, BBNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir termed fruitful the meeting with the high officials of the Trump administration.

Asked if they had talks over the upcoming general elections, Mirza Fakhrul said, “Oh yeah, we had talks but can’t reveal the contents.”

He said they had useful talks over the US-Bangladesh bilateral relations, the country’s current political situation and also the Rohingya issue.

BNP chairperson’s advisers Riaz Rahman and Sabihuddin Ahmed, and special affairs secretary SM Asaduzzaman Ripon were, among others, present at the meeting.

The six-member US team was led by Shannon.

Shannon is in a two-day visit, his first in Dhaka. He led the US delegation at the US-Bangladesh Partnership Dialogue.
