Khaleda pays homage to language martyrs


Dhaka, Feb 21: BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia managed to pay tributes to the language martyrs on the first hour of Ekushey after encountering and passing a series of hurdles on the way to the Central Shaheed Minar.

She paid her tribute on the altar by placing bouquet of flowers at the Central Shaheed Minar in the capital around 1:20 am on 21st February.

At that time, Khaleda was accompanied by BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, BNP standing committee members, organising secretaries, former MPs and senior leaders.

Earlier, on her way to the Central Shaheed Minar Khaleda face several hurdles. For some unknown reason police put obstacles on her way even though Khaleda got green signal to pay her tributes on the first hour of Ekushey.

On the hour of Sunday around 12:50 when the convoy carrying her reached at the intersection at Education building police stopped the motorcade. After having several minutes of arguments, the convoy started for the Shaheed Minar.

But again Khaleda along with the party leaders and activists faced obstacles when they wanted to reach the altar of the Minar. The volunteers and the BNP activists accompanying Khaleda were locked into an altercation.

At one stage, BNP leaders and activists forcefully clean her way to the main altar of the Shaheed Minar to pay her tributes.

BNP chairperson’s media wing member Shamsuddin Didar said, without any reason the motorcade carrying Khaleda Zia were being delayed for around 15 minutes. The list of attendees at the Shaheed Minar was submitted prior to her arrival to related authorities. Everybody with Khaleda Zia accompanying her to the Shaheed Minar were enlisted.”
