Entertainment desk, June 08: Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif, who are reuniting nine years after Farah Khan’s ‘Tees Maar Khan’, started filming for Rohit Shetty’s cop-drama, ‘ Sooryavanshi’, at a city studio on May 6. It was a brief schedule, with Neena Gupta who plays Akshay’s mother, joining in. Rohit has since flown to Thailand where he is filming his leading man’s larger-thanlife introduction with guns, bikes and a helicopter. It wraps up next week, after which everyone heads to Ramoji Filmcity in Hyderabad.“I start shooting the next schedule by June-end,” informs Katrina, elated to be a part of Rohit’s cop universe. The team will finish a substantial portion of the film in Hyderabad by July-end, after which a couple of songs will follow.
The Eid 2020 release is Katrina’s seventh collaboration with Khiladi Kumar whom she describes as a “chilled-out person to work with”. She adds that their first shot together was so easy that it didn’t seem like they were working together after almost a decade. “He’s a thorough professional and very accommodating with his co-stars,” she avers.
Over the years, Katrina has often spoken about her desire to do a women-centric action film on the lines of Kill Bill but admits that these things are not in her hand. “I hear almost every script that comes to me and besides action, I also want to experiment with other genres, like a psychological thriller and a comedy. But you can only select from what is offered to you,” she points out.
Meanwhile, after Anushka Sharma and Deepika Padukone, Katrina now plans to turn producer and is looking for the right script, something which connects with her immediately. “The films under my banner may be smaller and a little off-beat but they will be a journey we can go on together,” she explains. And will she act in these films? “Of course,” she replies, then amends her answer with a smile, “For now, it’s a yes.”
Apart from ‘ Sooryavanshi’, Katrina has another action film in her kitty—the third installment of the Tiger franchise, which sees her reprise her role of ISI agent named Zoya.
Ali Abbas Zafar has confirmed that the film is being scripted and will take off sometime next year while Salman has said that Katrina will always be a part of the Tiger franchise.
The leading lady however is not in the loop. “Ali has not shared his idea with me but then with Ali, I’m always the last one to know,” she laughs. “He is very secretive and keeps his scripts close to his chest till the last minute despite me being a good friend.”
