Dhaka, Feb 3: Jatiya Party (JP) will try to quit their members from the cabinet before the Union Parishad (UP) elections, JP co-chairman GM Quader said on Wednesday.

Leaders and activists want to see JP as real opposition party in parliament as well as across the country at grassroots level, he added.

“JP will be strengthened through the upcoming national council. So, the party leaders and activists want the JP members to leave from the cabinet before the UP elections,” GM Quader, also the spokesperson of the party, told reporters after a preparatory meeting on national council at its party central office.

Earlier, JP chairman HM Ershad announced GM Quader as convener and Ruhul Amin Hawlader as member secretary of the preparatory committee for holding the party’s national council.

However, JP secretary general  ABM Ruhul Amin Hawlader and other leaders attended the meeting.

A meeting of the presidium members of the JP led by the party Chairman HM Ershad has decided to quit the cabinet on January 31.

The presidium members who were present at the meeting gave power to Ershad for setting up time of quitting the government to make the party as real opposition.

However, Jatiya Party leaders, loyal to leader of the opposition in parliament Raushan Ershad, turned down its presidium members’ decision to quit cabinet as they think the meeting was not properly convened.
