Dhaka, April 17: Sajeeb Wazed Joy, ICT advisor to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, on Saturday night said that senior journalist and also an adviser to BNP chairperson Shafik Rehman was arrested for his involvement in a plot to kidnap and kill him in the US.

Joy made the statement in a Facebook status published on Saturday night.

The status reads, “Today our government arrested a senior “journalist” and opposition BNP leader Shafik Rehman for his involvement in a plot to kidnap and kill me in the US.”

In his status, he said that a US BNP leader’s son, a former FBI agent and another American friend of both are already serving time in the US for this plot.

Mentioning that he had long been under threat of life, Joy wrote that he has been faced the threat because of his mother is in politics of Bangladesh and he (Joy) helped her from time to time.

“It’s not because I’m a criminal or even a bad guy. It just happened that my mother is in politics in Bangladesh and I helped her time to time. It is also because our opposition party is of a particularly violent criminal one and is allied with the largest fundamentalist party in the country with direct ties to ISIS,” he writes.

Joy also gave a link of the US case statement from which the evidence came against Shafik Rehman.

“The evidence against “journalist” Shafik Rehman comes directly from this case. Note I put the word journalist in quotes because once you’re involved in trying to kidnap and kill someone I believe you have changed your career path from journalist to criminal. The BNP runs a mid-career course for that sort of thing,” Joy added.
