Journalist Altaf Mahmud buried at his village Dauka in Patuakhali

Patuakhali, Jan 25: Veteran journalist Altaf Mahmud was buried beside the grave of his beloved father at his village in the district’s Galachipa upazila on Monday.

After a namaz-e-janaza at Dauka village, he was buried around 11:00am.

Earlier around 4:30pm on Sunday (January 24), a helicopter carrying the body reached Galachipa.

Two Namaz-e-Janazas for him were held at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) and National Press Club on Sunday after he died at Bangabandhu Sehikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) hospital.

Colleagues, political leaders and people from different walks of life and professions paid their last respect to senior journalist Altaf Mahmud.

Bangla newspaper Dainik Destiny executive editor Mahmud, president of a faction of the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ), started his career in journalism in the 1970s.

He had worked as the chief reporter of a weekly, ‘Saptahik Khabar’, for a long time.

The veteran journalist used to attend talk-shows in various TV channels as a political analyst.

Mahmud had been the general secretary of the undivided Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ). He also had been the president of one of the DUJ factions for five terms.
