Jihad’s death: 4 among 3 Rly engineers get 10 years imprisonment

Dhaka, February 26: A Dhaka court on Sunday afternoon awarded ten years imprisonment to four people including three engineers of Bangladesh Railway in a case filed over the death of four-year-old Jihad who fell into a shaft in Dhaka’s Shahjahanpur area in 2014.

Dhaka Fifth Special Judge’s Court Justice Md Akhtaruzzaman passed the order on Sunday afternoon.

The convicts are contractor Md Shafiqul Islam, engineer Jahangir Alam, assistant engineers Md Nasir Uddin and Md Zafar Ahmed Shaki.

The court also fined them Tk2 lakh each, in default, ordered them to serve two more years in jail.

On December 26, 2014, Jihad died after falling into a 17-inch diameter abandoned shaft, near his house at Bangladesh Railway Colony in Shahjahanpur area in capital while playing with his friends.

His body was pulled out by a band of indomitable volunteers the following day.

On October 4 last year, the same court framed charges against six people including five engineers of Bangladesh Railway. All of them are now on bail.
