Interns of Suhrawardy Hospital protested for ‘abduction’ a colleague


Dhaka, Jan 2: Interns of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital protested the ‘abduction’ of their colleague intern Shamim Tapu blocking the Mirpur road in front of the hospital on Saturday.

Intern Shamim Tapu was ‘abducted’ by some unidentified miscreants on Friday.

However, intern of the hospital Murtaza said a group of unknown people picked up Tapu in a microbus from in front of the hospital around 2:00pm on Friday.

Murtaza said the interns took to the streets in front of their hospital at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar and put barricade around 1:00pm demanding Tapu’s rescue.

The blockade disrupted vehicular movement on Mirpur Road in the city for half an hour.

Besides, outdoor health services were seriously hampered due to their work abstention from 7am today.

However, the agitating doctors withdrew their road blockade programme around 1:30 pm following the assurance of the hospital authorities, Prof Dr Uttam Kumar Barua of the hospital said.

At a brief rally in front of the hospital, intern Mousumi announced that they will go on an indefinite work abstention from Sunday morning until the victim is rescued.
