Dhaka, May 9: Indian Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar is likely to arrive in Dhaka on Wednesday on a two-day official visit to discuss Bangladesh’s security and other bilateral issues.
He is arriving as a special envoy of Indian government and expected to carry a message from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina over the ongoing security situation in Bangladesh, sources said on Monday.
During his stay in Bangladesh, Jaishankar will meet Bangladesh’s high government officials, sources added.
Jaishankar is coming in the backdrop of recent attacks and killings taking place in Bangladesh.
He will also hold meeting with his Bangladesh counterpart Shahidul Haque during his visit.
Dhaka is considering his visit as “significant”, which is taking place soon after US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Nisha Desai Biswal visited the city following the brutal murder of a local staff of LGBT activist Xulhaz Mannan and his friend Mahbub Tonoy.
