Indefinite river-transport strike continues


Dhaka, August 23: River-transport workers staged countrywide indefinite strike is under way from Tuesday for their four-point demand including raising wages.

Bangladesh Water Transport Workers’ Federation president Shah Alam said the waterway workers under the banner of Water Transport Workers’ Movement Committee declared the strike at zero hour of Tuesday.

Their demand includes fixing minimum salary of the river transport workers at Tk10,000, giving them compensation for any harm in any accident, cracking down robbery on the river routes and increasing navigability of the rivers, Shah Alam added.
