Dhaka, June 12: The High Court (HC) on Sunday refused an anticipatory bail that sought for Chittagong MP Mustafizur Rahman Chowdhury on charges of assaulting an election official.
The bench of justices M Enayetur Rahim and Md Amir Hossain ordered the Awami League lawmaker to surrender in trial court by June 20 after hearing.
Mustafizur’s lawyer Abdul Based Majumder told reporters that the HC asked his client to surrender before the trial court.
Earlier on June 6, a case was filed against Awami League MP Mustafizur Rahaman Chowdhury and several others for beating up an Upazila election officer in Chittagong’s Banshkhali.
The case was lodged on Friday afternoon at the Banshkhali Police Station, said Superintendent of Police AKM Hafiz Akhter.
He said several others were also accused in the case along with the Chittagong-16 lawmaker, but could not name them straight away.
