Dhaka, May 27: Law enforcement agencies recovered seven grenades and three suicide vests as they ended their operation at two suspected militant hideouts in Genda area of Savar, outskirts of Dhaka, on Saturday.
The operation conducted by a team of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of DMP at a six-story building and a two-storey building in the area ended around 3:00pm.
Shah Mizan Shafiur Rahman, superintendent of police in Dhaka, was talking to reporters at a press conference in the afternoon.
He said, “Police took Shakib Ahmed, owner of the six-storey building, to their custody for questioning.”
More information on the suspected militants could be known after interrogating Shakib, the SP said.
Last night, the law enforcers cordoned off the six-storey building and the two-storey building in the area.
Around 10:45am today, the law enforcers started their operation after a bomb disposal unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) reached the spot.
The law enforcers earlier evacuated the locals from the nearby houses. A woman and two children were rescued from the house, police said.
Earlier last night, a CTTC team cordoned off a suspected militant den on the ground floor of a five-storey building, adjacent to the two houses, with assistance from Savar Model Police Station.
