Dhaka, April 20: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday claimed that the arrest of Shafik Rehman intends to divert the people’s attention from Bangladesh Bank cyber heist and Tonu murder case.
He made this statement while addressing a programme at Dhaka Reporters Unity auditorium in the city.
He claimed that senior journalist Shafik Rehman and Amar Desh acting editor were not involved with any plotting ‘to abduct and kill’ Sajeeb Wazed Joy, son of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The arrest proves that the government is suffering from nervousness, he added.
The government earlier ran repressive activities on the BNP but now it started to torture the senior journalists like The Daily Star Editor Mahfuz Anam who faces several cases, Fakhrul said.
