‘Govt is responsible for Khaleda’s health’: BNP

Dhaka, Apr 21: BNP on Saturday alleged that the government is doing ‘ill politics’ over the ‘serious illness’ of its chairperson Khaleda Zia in jail.Secretary general of the party Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir renewed their party’s demand for ensuring better treatment of Khaleda at the United Hospital in the city.

The BNP leader was speaking at a press conference at BNP’s Naya Paltan central office in Dhaka.

He said, “Khaleda Zia’s health condition is deteriorating gradually in the jail. The entire nation and we’re worried over her falling health condition.”

The BNP leader further said, “We would like to ask the government to take a step for releasing our leader and allowing her to receive treatment at United Hospital by doctors of her choice”.

Otherwise, Fakhrul warned, the government will be responsible if Khaleda’s health condition deteriorates further.

“Take steps for her release and treatment instead of doing foul politics,” he added.

The BNP leader also criticised the jail authorities for what he said not allowing them and Khaleda’s relatives to meet her over the last 10 days.

Referring to Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader’s comment over Khleda’s illness that the death and life are in the hands of Allah, Fakhrul said it has exposed the government’s plot against her.
