Govt bans airing Zakir Naik’s Peace TV in Bangladesh


Dhaka, July 10: The Bangladesh government on Sunday decided to ban broadcast of Peace TV, a channel run by Islamic preacher Zakir Naik from India.

The Cabinet committee on law and order has taken the decision in a special meeting on Sunday, Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu, who heads the panel, told reporters after the meeting held at the secretariat.

Among others, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, local government and rural development (LGRD) minister Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Water Resources Minister Anisul Islam Mahmud, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon and Overseas Employment Minister Nurul Islam BSc attended the meeting.

Besides, Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Haque, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia among top officials of different law enforcement agencies were also attended the meeting.

An official of Home Ministry said, today’s meeting was not a regular meeting. It was held over the current law and order situations of the country, the source added.
