Govt asks RMG owners to pay workers’ salary before Eid

Dhaka, May 22: The government on Sunday directed the owners of ready-made garment (RMG) factory to pay the worker’s salary for the month of June including bonus before Eid-ul-Fitr.

“We have requested the RMG owners to pay salaries and bonuses between Ramazan 15 and 21. Besides, they will also announce leave in phases on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr,” State Minister for Labour and Employment Mujibul Huq Chunnu told reporters after meeting with crisis management core committee held at the secretariat on Sunday.

The state minister said that if the garments workers get Eid vacation gradually then, traffic jam can be avoided at that time.

He also urged the garments owners not to open the factories during three day Eid vacation.

Chunnu also requested the RMG owners not to terminate any worker during the month of holy Ramzan.

The holy Ramzan is likely to begin either on June 6 or 7 (depending on moon sighting).
