Gas extraction begins in Bhola from new well

Bhola, November 1: The extraction of gas from a new well, Shahbazpur East-1, of Shahbazpur Gas Field began on Wednesday on an experimental basis, reports UNB.

The gas extraction began with lighting fire through DST-1 at Mulaipattan village of Borhanuddin upazila in the morning.

Top officials of Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Limited (Bapex), including its managing director Md Nowshad Islam, were present.

The gas extraction will continue for the next 3-4 days.

Amid the growing energy crisis, Bapex discovered the new gas reserve of around 700 billion cubic feet in the new well, raising the overall gas reserve of the area to around one trillion cubic feet.

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed inaugurated the digging of Shahbazpur East-1 well on August 6 last.
