Garo girl rape accused Rubel arrested, remanded for 6-day


Dhaka, November 15: Police on Tuesday arrested the prime accused of raping a Garo girl in the city’s Badda area who fled from custody at court on Sunday.

Rafsan Hossain Rubel was remanded by Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Sabbir Yasin Ahsan Chowdhury after he was produced before the court by Badda police.

At that time, the magistrate wanted to know from Rubel whether any lawyer was representing him. Answering negative, he himself started his own hearing.

Rubel told the court that he fled away being afraid of police torture. He also pleaded not to place him on remand.

After the hearing the court granted police six days’ remand for interrogating Rubel.

The accused Afsan Rahman Rubel, 26, was arrested on Tuesday morning from Suvastu Tower in city’s Uttar Badda area,  Dhaka Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Masudur Rahman, confirmed.

The accused fled from the chamber of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sadbir Yasir Ahsan Chowdhury around 3:30pm on Sunday after he was taken there to record confessional statement.

Two policemen were suspected of negligence in duty over Rubel’s escape.

 Earlier, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Friday arrested Rubel from city`s airport railway station area. He was handed over to Badda police on Saturday.

Rubel along with his several accomplices picked the indigenous girl up from Uttar Badda while she was returning from her workplace and raped her on the night of October 26. Later on November 4, the girl filed a law suit against Rubel, one of his accomplices Salauddin and two others unknown persons.
