A bomb disposal unit began their operation ‘Operation Sun Devil’, a codename used for a crackdown to flush out JMB operatives in the northwestern district, around 8.30am.
The police asked villagers by loudspeaker to stay away from the area. The local administration also issued an order restraining the movement of people in the neighbourhood.
“We will try to defuse explosives, if any, inside the hideout. That’s our first task. We will remove the dead bodies from the field,” said Superintendent of Police Moazzem Hossain Bhuiyan.
At least five militants and a fire service man were killed in a suicide explosion at the den on Thursday.
Of the deceased, the Fire Service man was identified as Abdul Matin, 45.
The killed militants were ascertained of a family. They were Sazzad Hossain, 50, owner of the house, his wife Bely Begum, 40, their sons Al-Amin, 20, Swayed, 25, and daughter Karima Khatun, 17.
