Dhaka, June 13: Professor Moniruzzaman Mia, former vice-chancellor of Dhaka University (DU), died on Monday at a hospital in Dhaka at the age of 81.
He breathed his last around 11:45am while undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of Square Hospital, Achintya Chakrabortty, officer, marketing and business development of the hospital said.
Moniruzzaman Mia had been admitted to the Square Hospital with various ailments two days back, the official added.
He will be buried at Banani graveyard on Tuesday, Moniruzzaman Miah’s brother M Asaduzzaman said.
The dead body will be kept at the hospital’s mortuary.
He joined the DU as VC on March 24, 1990. On October 31, 1992 he was made ambassador to Senegal.
Prof Mia was also served the Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) as a commissioner during the BNP-led government.
Moniruzzaman Mia was a bachelor in his personal life.
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir offered condolences for the deceased, who was a pro-BNP intellectual.
