Tangail, April 2: A female readymade garment (RMG) worker was allegedly gang-raped on a running bus by the driver and his two assistants on the Mymensingh-Tangail highway in Madhupur upazila under Tangail district on Friday morning.
Police have arrested the three rapists after the victim’s husband filed a case with Tangail police station.
The arrestees are—bus driver Habibur Rahman Nayan and his assistants Rezaul Karim Jewel and Abdul Khalek.
Police arrested them from Dhanbarhi bus stand area in the afternoon..
The woman was raped by the three on Friday morning in the ‘Binimoy Paribahan’ bus when it was heading for Dhaka from Modhupur’s Dhanbarhi, said officer-in-charge of Tangail police station Md Majibar Rahman.
The three were presented before a Tangail court on Saturday morning.
Dr. Rehana Pervin, gynecologist of the hospital, said the forensic examinations of the victim has already been completed. Details would be disclosed after getting the report.
The victim’s husband said his wife had gone to a relative’s house at Dhanbarhi from Gazipur on Thursday. She boarded the bus to return home in Gazipur Friday morning.
Quoting his wife, he said there were no other passengers in the bus when it started moving toward Mymensingh highway instead of Dhaka-Tangail highway.
The bus staff beat her as she asked the reason of taking turn. They closed the door and all the windows and raped her by turn after tying up her hands and mouth.
He said locals rescued her after they threw her off the bus on the Modhupur-Mymensingh road.
Friday’s incident has taken place amidst the furore over ‘rape’ and murder of college student Sohagi Jahan Tonu in Comilla last month.
Two sisters were also allegedly gang-raped overnight in Lakshmipur’s Kamalnagar after being dragged to an abandoned house by five men on March 29.
A court in 2014 had ordered life imprisonment for a driver and his assistant for raping a girl in a moving bus on the Dhaka-Aricha highway in Manikganj in early 2013.
