Fakhrul’s motorcade attacked in Ctg


Chittagong, June 18: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s motorcade came under attack at Rangunia upazila in the district on Sunday morning.

Miscreants vandalised at least five vehicles of the motorcade of the BNP leader, who was leading a five-member delegation of the party on way to Rangamati, around 10:30am.

BNP secretary general was also hurt in the incident, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, standing committee member of BNP, who is also injured, said.

“The activists of ruling party lawmaker Hasan Mahmud attacked on BNP leaders,” Amir Khasru said.

Party sources said a group of 20-25 unknown people attacked them with sticks and sharp weapons at Ichhakhali area under Rangunia upazila leaving Mirza Fakhrul along with few others leaders injured.

The BNP delegation was scheduled to visit landslide-ravaged areas of Chittagong and Rangamati later in the day.

After the attack, the party cancelled the trip to Rangamati and started to return to Chittagong.
